"It's All Relative"

10 June 2003

I knew the warm weather couldn't hold off forever. My days of hiding under a jacket at work are numbered. Fortunately my sweating level has decreased somewhat. Perhaps my body is growing accustomed to the thyroid hormone dose, but I prefer to attribute it to being in love. Can you hear the birdies chirping?

My relationship with Kevin has made me feel more relaxed all day long, and I know stress is a big trigger for my hyperhidrosis. It's still all relative, mind you. Saying I'm sweating less is like saying Niagara Falls has gotten a little drier.

From April into May I had perspiration stains drip down to my waist on an almost daily basis. I've heard some call perspiration stains "pit art". Well for more than a month I've created masterpieces on my blouses regularly. I soaked through jackets so often I've left salty rings on them too. On their outside.

But I noticed a let up last week, and had only one down-to-the-waist day. Today as I type this I'm wearing a blue green poly blouse and the wetness is "only" down to my bra band and about half way to my elbows. Tragically sweaty for most people, I know, but a veritable drought for me. I shrugged off my jacket and met Kevin for lunch today.

He noticed immediately. "You're not sweating as much as usual," he said. We're good buds about the whole HH thing now.

I raised my arms skyward and twirled. The other people who looked at me must have wondered why such a sweaty woman was doing this. To me, I felt as dry as someone in an antiP commercial.

It's all relative.
